Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
Research plays a central role in the Institute since its founding. In the ’60s and ’70s, the knowledge about the genetics was at that time still limited almost exclusively to cytogenetics. Over the years with the development of molecular analysis of DNA, this area of medicine has experienced huge technoligical advancements. In 2000 the completion of the genome project has ensured genetics now plays a central role in modern medicine.
This has resulted in numerous collaborations between the Institute of Clinical Genetics and numerous institutes of both their faculty and of other Italian and foreign faculty.
The Institute actively contributes to adding new knowledge to the field of genetics through the study of Mendelian diseases, multifactorial, and tumor as evidenced by publications in international journals and projects funded by both Italian and foreign institutions.
