The Akari Foundation
The Akari Foundation is an NGO that works for the benefit of the Hispanic community who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Their mission is to educate, empower and advocate for the Hispanic immigrant community, help them with resources, advocacy, and education in rare diseases, specializing in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The Akari foundation believes that all research and therapy development needs to be inclusive, and for a successful trial, the patient sample has to be not only significant but diverse enough. Therefore, in order to accelerate research, our community is essential, as well as for the improvement of the therapeutic development of NMDs. We as an organization can provide insight and data regarding the Hispanic community and we are able to create and establish networks for the benefit of better equitable care, resources, treatments, and therapies.
