Muskelsvindfonden
Muscular Dystrophy Foundation’s history dates back to 1971 when the association was formed in protest that there was virtually nothing done for people with muscular dystrophy. The disease at that time considered hopeless. Moreover, many left for a disenfranchised lives in institutions.
Muscular Dystrophy Foundation’s mission in the first several years was to fight for the principle that something should indeed be done. Throughout the years Muscular Dystrophy Association has worked on the same goal: to improve conditions for people with muscular dystrophy.
In 1976 it led to the creation of a nationwide guidance and Treatment Centre, which in 1996 changed its name to Department of Muscular Dystrophy. In 1985 created Muskelsvindfonden a Special Development Centre to gather and develop knowledge of muscular dystrophy. Department of Muscular name changed again in 2005 and is now: Rehabilitation for Muscular Dystrophy.
