Professor of Neurology and Director of the Fields Center for FSHD and Neuromuscular Research
Dr. Tawil has been studying FSHD since 1991. He has been involved in clinical research and translational research in FSHD. His early studies focused on the natural history of FSHD and the establishing clinical outcome measures as well as the conduct of some of the early clinical trials in FSHD. More recent studies, in collaboration with other investigators, have focused on the understanding how the genetic defects in FSHD relate to symptoms and changes in muscle function. Other research interests include the muscle channel diseases, especially the periodic paralyses.
