Professor Jorge Alfredo Bevilacqua
Professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Hospital Clínico Universidad de Chile
Jorge Alfredo Bevilacqua is currently Professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Hospital Clínico Universidad de Chile, where he is the Head of the Neuromuscular Unit and is also in charge of the Neuromuscular Disorders Fellowship Program of the University of Chile. He is also Head of the Laboratory of Muscle Pathology at the Clínica Dávila, Santiago, Chile.
His professional focus in the last 20 years has been centred on the development of the clinical myology in Chile, and the implementation of imaging, electrophysiology, pathology and genetic diagnosis of muscle diseases. His research has been focused on limb girdle muscular dystrophies in particular dysferlinopathy; Pompe’s disease, centronuclear myopathy, having support mainly from the Comisión Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de Chile.
Dr. Bevilacqua is one of the leading organizers of the Latin American Summer School of Myology (EVELAM) as well as a member of the scientific committee of the Latin American Society of Neuromuscular Diseases, SOLANE. Dr. Bevilacqua also maintains active collaborations in the field of neuromuscular disorders with different centres in Europe, North America and Latin America.
