Paola Imbrici
Professor of Pharmacology
Italy
Paola Imbrici is a pharmacologist with a long standing interest in the study of genetic channelopathies of skeletal muscle, brain and kidney and their pharmacotherapy. The main aims of her research are: i) investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying channelopathies and defining the genotype-phenotype correlation in affected patients; ii) developing personalized therapies for channelopathies based on pharmacogenetics, newly synthesized molecules and/or drug repositioning. This research is based on functional and pharmacological in vitro and in vivo studies using cell-lines and animal models and patients’ biopsies and on different approaches ranging from patch-clamp electrophysiology to biochemical, molecular biology to more functional assays to assess drug efficacy. Paola Imbrici’s research is performed in close collaborations with several clinical centres and other academic laboratories.
