Writer, speaker, and health care consultant, Meridith O’Connor is a patient advocacy specialist dedicated to informing others about the patient voice and the lived experience of those with chronic illness. O’Connor holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in healthcare ethics as well as a master’s degree in social work with an emphasis on health. Drawing from her journey with a rare neuromuscular disorder as well as her academic background, O’Connor utilizes her personal and professional expertise to encourage a healthy appreciation for the patient perspective. O’Connor recently founded her company, the Merit Option, a patient advocacy firm that enables her to educate, engage, and empower others who are looking to gain insight into chronic illness communities. Whether working on an individual, communal or global level, O’Connor intends to cultivate supportive spaces for patients and recognize their value by inspiring greater awareness, productive dialogue, and welcomed diversity.
