Dr. Russell Butterfield is a clinician scientist focused on translational research in neuromuscular disorders. He is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of Utah where he directs the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic at the University of Utah and Neuromuscular Clinic at Primary Children’s Hospital.
Dr Butterfield leads translational research through the Utah Program in Inherited Neuromuscular Disorders that includes clinical and basic research studies. Dr. Butterfield’s primary emphasis is focused on the impact of genetic therapies and newborn screening for neuromuscular disorders and understanding genetic modifiers of severity in various types of muscular dystrophy including Duchenne muscular dystrophy, FSHD, and collagen VI-related muscular dystrophies.
